Merry christmas everyone! Finally, it's the time where I can take a look at everything that happened this year, for both my music and my -youknow- life.
Without further delays, I present to you the Dimcap '24!
Music-wise, it has been a pretty uneventful year for me tbh, with my only releases consisting of like maybe 2 or 3 ALBUMS?! This has been BY FAR my most productive year ever, having released a total of more than 40 songs! This year was a major turning point for my discography, too, with much-much experimentation to my sound, switching genres literally every few months, breaking out of the speed trance sphere and messin' around with way more sounds, concepts, chord progressions, and expanding on my sound design. I literally locked in.
However, the biggest thing to happen in the Dimscography (yes thats what its called) has to be my first full-full length record, W/A/S/T/E/D. This has been my greatest, most complete work to date, with every song in every chapter following a concept, a story that -I hope- can put you in thoughts, because that's what I believe art should do. Of course, being so cryptic and out-there, I knew that it wouldn't gain much attention, and I have been proven right for the most part. However, everyone who listened through it has been more than intrigued, and that's what matters to me most. If there's anything to listen from me after this, it'd be this record. I truly recommend you give it a chance!
Despite some flops, like PRESS SELECT TO START and W/A/S/T/E/D (people don't seem to like capital letters smh) this year we had some major wins too. For a start, I've been frontpaged (or been in a frontpage) 4 times this year! Well, I guess only one was completely MY song, but that's besides the point. This has been overall a very successful year, more so than 2022.
To embrace this period of radical change, and to characterize my music better, I decided to rebrand my name (once again), as you can see, from Dim-J to dim7ay. The last time I had a rebrand was in 2021, also to characterize that era and style, going by Invisibility. Despite the fact that the word contains 5 damn i's, it was also very forgettable and at the same time very hard to search. I decided to switch back to the original name of Dim-J, a name I came up with at the humble age of -10 years old-, made by having the start of my actual name merged with the word DJ. While I still think that concept was cool, 'specially for back then, the excecution was... bad. The name required you to remember that J in the end, which also seemed kinda out-of-place, and most importantly required a DASH, which isn't available in every method of writing online, further complicating everything.
So there I am in my sketchbook, tryna stylize writing my name, when in a quick scribble I accidentally wrote the J as a 7, and that was that. 7 is one of my fav numbers, the ending of my current age, and most importantly the year I was born ('07 boii), so for it to stylize my nickname so perfectly, giving a deadmau5 vibe, it was perfect for me. As I hope you've already noticed, it is pronounced exactly the same (d-ee-m-j-ey).
With this change, I finally got the push to get to support my fav website, Newgrounds itself, needing so to change my username. I'm really glad this site exists, so it's an honor to be able to support it, even by a tiny bit. If I ever turn a profit out of music, you bet your butt I'm sending my support there first thing!
2024 wasn't only good music-wise, though, because I believe it was one of my better years here on planet earth, loaded with first experiences (as was the case in my past years of high school), good few friends, good ol' laughs, and possibly being my most stable year since 2019, for a lot of reasons (life stability, emotional stability, stabilital stability (stable) ). This year, I've also had the best summer of my life. I'm so glad, even after anything bad, that I got to live such a nostalgic summer as my last before adulthood. I'm glad I got something to reminince of, when I'm 30, and drinking alone in my apartment! (jkjk)
Concluding this -blog?-, I'd like to thank yall for listening to my music throughout the years. I hope or I'm glad you could find enjoyment in my songs, even if it was once, or a multitude of times. I wish you have sum cool holidays, ppl. ;)
That's it for this year. Be tuned for next releases, and have a good day.
